MSRP on the Panasonic Lumx DMC-FZ28K is $399.99, but you’d be a fool to pay list price. Amazon, B+H, Adorama and Ritz have it for much less.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K is a 10 Megapixel Compact Camera with SLR-like features.
The panasic lumix DMC is a hybrid of a SLR and Compact. It offers a 18x Leica zoom that allows you to get in, and get close and also offers a wide angle setting of 27mm for times when you need to get as much as you can in your photographs. Whether you shoot action and need a fast camera with flexible zoom technology or landscapes and wildlife the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K is a worthy contender.
Besides the flexibility the 18x Leica zoom lens allows the other features that make the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K stand out are Intelligent Auto Mode and AF Focus Tracking. The Auto Focus Tracking allows you to lock the focus on a moving subject and the camera will take care of the rest. No need to push the shutter halfway down to continually focus. The Auto Focus tracking also includes Face Detection (this seems to be the must-have feature this year) that will automatically track and focus on up to fifteen happy faces.
The Intelligent Auto Mode, otherwise known and labeled as ‘iA’. (We’ve got the iPod, and ‘i’ everything else…so why not?) offers other features. Firstly, it offers intelligent exposure adjustment as the name would suggest preventing photos from being over or under exposed. Other features of the iA system are red eye reduction systems. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28K emits a small pre-flash to help the eyes adjust before shooting the photo, thus resulting in less chance of red eye occurring.
The Mega O.I.S (where do these guys dream up these names?) is a gyro sensor system built into the lens that prevents the dreaded camera shake which can result in a blurry image.
Intelligent ISO selection is built in to the Panasonic DMC-FZ28K can adjust automatcially and shoot up to ISO 6400 allowing you to make perfect photographs in even the toughest lighting conditions.
Like all modern digital cameras, this little Panasonic DMC-FZ28K has a bright and clear 2.7 inch LCD display with 230,000 pixels resulting in a crisp, clear, colorful screen for you to compose and review your shots.
Seemingly ever popular these days, thanks to YouTube and the like is the ability to shoot video as well as still photography and the Panasonic DMC-FZ28k offers video capabilities allowing you to shoot high definition at 1280×720p at 30fps.
One interesting option worth mentioning is the ability to shoot in 16:9 format which matches the dimensions of most HDTV’s allowing your TV to be the the biggest picture frame in your home or office.
To wrap up the feature set of the Panasonic DMC-FZ28K the camera also offers a Image leveling option. Essentially, there’s a setting that allows you to straighten your photos, and the Panasonic DMC-FZ28K also includes Silkypix Developer Studio 3.0 SE, allowing you to edit and develop your photos in RAW format, which gives you greater flexibility than JPEG.
Lastly the Panasonic DMC-FZ28K offers full manual control when you would prefer to be in control of exposure and focus, as opposed to allowing the camera to take care of these duties.
To summarize, it’s no wonder the Panasonic DMC-FZ28K is a top seller. A flexible zoom, HD video capability, auto image exposure, Auto Focus Tracking, Full Manual Operation and a 18x Zoom make this a worth contender to other cameras in this price range.
