Is the Nikon SB-800 really gone?

Thom Hogan, the other day had a note on his front page stating ‘sayonara SB-800′.

But, is it really gone? I can’t find it ‘gone’ anywhere where I’d want to buy it.

Amazon.com seems to have them in stock

Adorama.com seems to have them in stock

B+H Photo seems to have them in stock

Ritz Camera seems to have them in stock

Calumet seems to have them in stock

Abes‘ of Maine has them in stock

Now, I’m not saying that thom is wrong, as he probably has insider info I don’t, but as I write this – they’re all in stock – at any one of the places I’d buy and trust.  I think it would be a shame to ditch the Nikon SB-800 as it’s a really, really good strobe at a great price point. For me, the SB_600 does too little and the SB-900 is just too much flash. Just like little red riding hood and the three bears, for me the Nikon SB-800 flash is just right.
