I made $640 on my new blog in a month. I show you how

I made $640 this month with this blog/site. I put in at very least 8 hours each day to do so. If you’re a faster typer than I am, you may be able to do it in less. I’m also learnin as I go. I have one successful site under my belt, and hoping photo daily news is number 2.

Seeing as this is my first full month with Photo Daily News ( I launched Oct 5, 2008), I thought I’d recap where the money came from for November. I’ve been doing daily summaries but I think a monthly archive is needed too. Over time I’ll be able to see what months performed the best, and what ones didn’t. The hope is that over time the income will grow. Slow and Steady wins the race here, or at last that’s what I’d like. I’d love to be here ten years from now looking back at my steadily increasing earnings over time, as opposed some some fad or flash in the pan.

Google Income. I never really played around much with google adsense until this month. I’ve tried it on ramseeker.com a few times, but it never really took off. All it did was distract from the memory pricing links, so I killed the ads. Google Adsense has been called ‘welfare for webmasters’ and I agree to a point. There’s no effort in negotiating pricing, selling ads, or the space. Cut and paste the code, and you’re done.

The plus of Google Adsense is that there’s very little effort on your part. The downside is you get paid pennies for somebody to LEAVE your site. I’ve worked hard to get get that visitor. I don’t want ‘em to leave, and for what? a few cents? and then the advertiser has their attention, not me. For now, they’re staying as I’m learning to diversify my income streams, so if one dries up, no biggie – I’ve got others. My adsense earnings have increased over the month, so perhaps there’s hope:

For November, I made $67.19 with google, which averages out to about two dollars per day.

Affiliate Income.

This has been the biggest part of my income and I want it to be that way. I’d MUCH rather get a percentage of the sale by linking to products (mostly amazon). You get a good deal, and I get a small percentage of what you bought. Amazon is a hard vendor to market for, as the cookie set on your computer only lasts for the day. I’ve written about this before, but if you sleep on it or ask the wife, and then go visit amazon.com directly, I don’t get paid.I think it’s dirty pool if you get value from this site, yet don’t end up supporting me. I helped you. Fair is fair.

Here’s a summary of affiliate income.

ecost.com: $4.90. Sold a few cheapo compact cameras. eCost can have good pricing sometimes.

B+H Photo: $6.40. Two sales here. I have no idea what, as they don’t report as well as amazon.

Adorama: $104.31.. Three sales here but one was for three thousand dollars worth of camera gear which resulted in a nice earning that day. Sold a few other items to get to the $100. Again, their reporting isn’t as great so I have no idea WHAT sold, which would be really handy.

Amazon. I’m truly surprised that Amazon is my biggest earner this month. Their cookie is so short, compared to others that offer such a long cookie. But, I earned $587 through Amazon so I’m happy. The fun part was watching all the NON photo related stuff that sold. Mens Shorts, and Banana Games:
