Unless you’ve been living away from a computer for some time now, you’re probably aware that the cost of computer memory keeps falling and falling (just like LCD TV’s, and to a point – Digital Cameras). In short, RAM is cheap these days.
Unless, you’re not in control of the computer you want to upgrade. Which is every hosted server out there. Even though 1gb usually sells for about $20 these days, I just got tagged $100 for a 1gb memory upgrade for the computer this site is hosted at. Why? Because they can. I can’t say to my host: “well, that’s outrageous it’s a $20 part” Too bad. You want your server to run again: buy our ram: $100.
I’m hosted at pair.com, and they’ve been great and I have no complaints. I’ve been a customer for over ten years. I’m sure some of the $100 pays for the support guy to install it, or for the tech guy at the end of the support email to have the knowledge in the first place to know that a ram upgrade would increase my slow server response. Nothing’s free in this world.
Which I guess is my point with this. I know it may seem as if I’m in this for the money. And to a point, I am. I’ve been in front of this box since 7am this morning and I should get paid. I found you a deal on a $79 digital camera today. I troubleshot my slow performance of this website. If I didn’t care, I’d just let the server run slowly and save the $100. But, with your support, I HAD the$100 to pay for the upgrade, even though it’s overpriced. And what did you have to do? Nothing. All I ask is IF and only IF you find yourself in the market for a digital camera or accessory or what have you, that you click to the vendor from here. That’s it. Just a click pays for part of my upgrade if not the whole thing depending on the amount of your purchase. You click. I’ll buy more ram. You save on your purchase, and I’ll keep writing and finding more deals for your next purchase.
