Ducks, Unlimited

(Alternate Title:  Ducks, ad nauseam )

Weather here in Moncton has finally turned and mother nature has said – let there be sun. After what seemed like a month of rain – it’s a welcome sight.

Sooo…what nicer day to play hookie for the afternoon? I didn’t want to go to the beach and it was getting way past lunchtime so I didn’t stray to far from the home. I ended up in Sackville, NB and the Waterfowl Sanctuary, or park – or something.

Wait – it’s here: Sackville Waterfront Park.

And, I found birds. Ducks, mostly.  Ready? Here we go!!

The ducks are only in about 6 or so inches of water. It’s a flooded field for the most part.

JIM_8686.JPG

Sure is pretty though. A boardwalk goes along the perimeter and sometimes through the marsh.

Great, if you’re a wildlife photog. I’m not. Yet.  This is just practicin’. Sorry.

JIM_8692.JPG

The ducks love it because they can do THIS. Duck bums – who knew?

Should this photo be marked NSFW?

They also scratch with their hind legs. Today’s lesson for me: Ducks are like dogs. Not that I want either as a pet.

JIM_8710.JPG

A cool place to be if you’re a duck though.

JIM_8727.JPG

Or a baby duck, or baby ducks with momma duck.

JIM_8745.JPG

Or just a loner…

JIM_8753.JPG

Who likes to turn it up a notch when he thinks nobody’s looking. Little devil.

JIM_8756.JPG

And get jiggy with it.

JIM_8765.JPG

I can stand!

JIM_8767.JPG

Beat it -just beat it..

JIM_8769.JPG

Oops. song’s over. A final tribute to Michael Jackson. Meanwhile…back at the ranch..

JIM_8771.JPG

Now, junior – don’t stray to far. (can you find junior? leave a comment if you can)

JIM_8773.JPG

See No Evil  - Hear No Evil – Speak No Evil

SJIM_8802.JPG

Hey  - that’s no duck! What the duck?

JIM_8832.JPG

And this is a really really big white duck.

JIM_8870.JPG

The May of Sackville  is the biggest, baddest duck in town. At least,I think so – his parking spot was closest to the door.

JIM_8887.JPG

And lastly, they even have  ducky park benches here in Sackville, with handles shaped like – wait for it! Ducks!

JIM_8874.JPG

A quick stop at Mel’s Tea Room for a cold drink and I ducked out of Sackville. Home just in time for dinner.

Later,
Jim

    • Well yes, I can see junior scampering off towards the lower right corner.

And btw, that big white duck is no duck – it is something called a swan, and are usually ridiculed of as The Ugly Duckling by their peers when younger! Good think you’re not a wildlife fotog. LOL.

    • Obviously, my attempt at humor failed, re: the swan. I’m aware. But a wildlife photograher, I’m not, so you are correct. Regardless, I had fun shooting AND posting these so mission accomplished on my end. – JIm

      Best Digital Cameras

Trying to determine what the best digital camera is depends on so many different variables it’s almost mind boggling. When I started in photography cameras had settings for shutter speed on the camera body, aperture on the camera lens and that was pretty much it. Fast Forward to 2010 cameras have gotten easier to use thanks to digital camera technology in the form of point and shoot and single lens reflex formats but what is the best digital camera that suits your needs? The best digital camera for sports might be a SLR, but when you have to carry a [...]

      Canon SD4000is Digital Camera Review

Canon SD400is Digital Camera The Canon SD4000is has to be considered one of, if not the most feature packed digital cameras I have reviewed to date. This new digital camera  from Canon announced in March 2010 offers many new and advanced technology features that include a super slow movie mode, a fast f/2.0 lens (same as the S90) and a low light shooting mode that makes this digital camera a dream to use when the light is low. Canon Powershot SX20is Digital Camera Review

The Canon SX20is digital camera has one very, very important feature that in my own opinion makes the Canon SX20is a best selling digital camera and beats a lot of other digital cameras on the market today: A 20x zoom lens This one feature (actually there’s another but we’ll get to that in a moment) makes this the best and one of the cheaper digital cameras that are perfect for travelling this summer. With the Canon SX20is you can carry only one camera with you yet still make great photos and use the flexibility that only a 20x zoom lens [...]

Nikon Coolpix S8000 Digital Camera Review

The Nikon Coolpix S8000 small and compact digital camera offer a whole lot of features considering it’s size and price.  With a suggested retail price of $299, it’s still a deal of a digital camera, but with discounts you can buy the Nikon S8000 for much less than the ‘suggested price’ might be. But enough about the Nikon S8000 price, what makes or breaks a digital camera is it’s feature set and the Nikon S8000 is no slouch. Offering 14 megapixels (actually, 14.2) and a 10x optical zoom lens and 3 inch LCD you’d think that would be enough features right [...]

Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital Camera Review

The Canon EOS Rebel T2i Digital Camera takes what was already a very good digital camera in the Canon EOS Rebel T1i and improves on the T1i even further improvements such as more megapixels, better low light sensitivity, and an improved movie mode that offers manual exposure control and Full HD video recording at 1920 x 1080 resolution. Like the earlier T1i, the T2i comes in two different configurations: one with kit lens, and one configured as just the camera body only with no lens at all included. Today, I’m reviewing the Canon T2i with 18-55mm zoom lens, so you’re [...]
